MASSDOT CONTRACT NO. 84999 – BRIDGE REPLACEMENT BR. NO. B06011 (CONCRETE ARCH) – ROUTE 126 (NORTH MAIN STREET) OVER A PROPOSED RAIL TRAIL

Overview: As part of an ongoing program by the MASSDOT, Bridge No. B06011, located in Bellingham, Massachusetts was selected to be demolished and replaced. The span was originally constructed as a railway overpass. As the railway had long since been abandoned, the new design included replacing the bridge structure with a 24’ diameter precast arch culvert. The design took into consideration future potential use of the abandoned railway as a multiple use path. John Rocchio Corporation was awarded a contract to remove and replace the existing span with a 24’ diameter pre-cast culvert.

Work: The work consists of the demolition of the existing bridge superstructure and partial demolition of the substructure. Construction of new cast-in-place foundation walls, precast arch culvert, mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, utility relocation and roadway profile improvements to Rt. 126.
